Make a difference today – and for generations to come.

With more than $170 million in assets, Licking County Foundation is comprised of nearly 350 individual charitable funds—each with a purpose that matches the donor’s philanthropic passion. Funds may be established by individuals, families, businesses, nonprofit organizations and other entities.

Donors may choose from among eight different fund types that can serve their charitable intentions in perpetuity (endowed) or temporarily (non-endowed). An endowed fund makes grants using only the income and earnings of the fund; the initial gift and subsequent gifts are never spent. A non-endowed fund is a fund whose contributions and earnings may be used for a charitable purpose.

Any of these funds can be established in your name, or in the name of your family, business or organization—or anyone you wish to honor. Some funds require a minimum gift to start and others require only that the minimum be reached within a certain period. New donations may be added to funds at any time and in any amount. As they continue to grow, so will their impact.

The Licking County Foundation is bound by IRS law in establishing and managing our donors’ funds. Be sure to speak with your estate and tax professionals before setting up a fund. We’re happy to help provide information to your professional advisors at any time. Professional advisors can also find out more here.

Types of Funds

Named Unrestricted Funds* Donors who establish unrestricted funds allow the Foundation to make grants that address the community’s most urgent needs and emerging opportunities. Grants are disbursed based on priority areas identified by the Foundation’s Grant Partnership Committee.

Field of Interest Funds* Donors who want their legacy to address a broad purpose, geographic area, or specific cause/issue can establish a Field of Interest fund. Grants from these funds support organizations most aligned with the donor’s intent to create the greatest impact.

Designated Agency Funds* Donors can provide permanent, continuous support to nonprofit organizations or programs nearest to their hearts with a Designated Agency Fund. Grants automatically go out at the beginning of each year to the donor’s selected beneficiaries.

Agency Funds Nonprofit organizations can establish a fund to provide an ongoing source of income for operations and programs.

Scholarship Funds* Individuals, organizations or businesses can establish scholarship funds to support academic and career goals of students seeking a bachelor’s degree, associate degree, professional/graduate degrees or certificate program at accredited U.S. institutions.

Donor Advised Funds Donors can support their long-term charitable goals while actively participating in the giving process by recommending grants to organizations and programs.

Community Charitable Funds Similar to donor advised funds, a CCF helps donors simplify their annual giving and support of their favorite nonprofit organizations. These funds are non-endowed; donors may use part or all of their fund balance to make charitable grants.

Project Funds Individuals or groups who want to raise funds to achieve a specific goal can set up a Project Fund. LCF receives and acknowledges all the gifts and makes grants to cover the cost of the project. Great for specific, short-term projects with a clear community benefit. Gifts to this non-endowed fund type are reserved in a preservation of capital account for expected expenditures.

*These fund types are excellent options for donors considering planned gifts.
