The Language of Inclusion: Pronouns and Other Gendered Words
Zoom rooms, business cards, email signatures, even registration forms - pronouns are turning up in our communication tools more visibly. Why? Pronouns are tools for effective and efficient communication, but their intentional or unintentional misuse can cause confusion and even harm. Using gender-affirming language such as pronouns, and avoiding unnecessary use of highly-gendered words helps us to create spaces that are safe, inviting, and inclusive of people of all genders. If you are curious about how pronouns figure into the larger conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion, join us for one of two sessions on "The Language of Inclusion." We'll learn why pronouns matter, explore the history of pronouns and how they are evolving, consider alternatives to other gendered language (e.g., sir, ma’am), and talk about ways allies can use language to advocate for and support transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. This program is free and open to all.
We are offering two opportunities to participate in this program:
Thursday, July 28: 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm
Tuesday, August 23: Noon to 1:15 pm
