TIBBIE LESLIE TRAVEL GRANTS

Elizabeth Randolph Leslie, know as Tibbie, was raised in Newark, Ohio.  She graduated from Newark High School in 1950 and from Miami University in 1954.  Ms. Leslie taught physical education at Withrow High School in Cincinnati for 30 years.  Every summer, she returned to Newark to visit her family then leave for a trip to Europe, South America, China, or Africa, traveling with groups of educators.  Her learning experiences on these trips were so wonderful that she decided to help other teachers and students travel.  Ms. Leslie died in 1995.  Through her will, she created the Tibbie Leslie Fund in the Licking County Foundation.  The annual income from the fund is the source of these grants.

Who is eligible for a Tibbie Leslie Travel Grant?

Teachers at any public or parochial school in Licking County, and Newark High School graduating seniors who are planning a teaching career are eligible.  Former recipients may apply for grants;  however, priority will be given to teachers who have not received a grant within the previous two years.  Teachers accompanying their students on a class or school trip are not eligible for this grant.  The Licking County Foundation will not discriminate and grants will be awarded without regard to race, gender, religion, or national origin.

What is the Tibbie Leslie Travel Grant?

The Tibbie Leslie Travel Grant provides stipends of up to $2,000 each for travel outside the continental United States.  The grants will be awarded to teachers and Newark High School graduating seniors who plan foreign travel to broaden their experience and knowledge in their particular field of interest.  In the event available funds are not expended, larger grants may be awarded.  After travel has been completed, a written report detailing the trip must be submitted to the Licking County Foundation.

Application Instructions

1.  Complete and sign the application form.

2.  Obtain the endorsement of your district superintendent or assistant superintendent.

3.  Attach a resume.

4.  Mail application to:

Reimbursement of Travel Expenses

In performing expenditure responsibility, the Licking County Foundation will reimburse recipients up to the amount of the grant for travel, accommodations, meals, and other related approved expenses.  A copy of the receipts to be reimbursed, as well as the written report, must be submitted to the Foundation prior to reimbursement.  The Foundation must issue payment to the school or school district, which will then reimburse the recipient.
