COMPETITIVE GRANTS
These grants will
support a wide variety of activities
benefiting education, youth, arts
and culture, health, human services,
and recreation in 2010. The
organizations that received these
grants are as follows:
Alzheimer’s Association – Central
Ohio: $6,070 to
support education and one-on-one
onsite care consultations to
residents in Licking County who are
affected by Alzheimer’s disease and
related dementias.
Heartbeats of Licking County, Inc.:
$20,000 to support a two-story
addition connected to the current
center that will allow for an
anticipated 50% expansion of their
client and program services.
Heath
Community Arts Council: $6,975
to support the installation of an
elevator to make the Davis-Shai
House facility ADA compatible.
Kairos
Academy: $20,000 to
support a vehicle to transport
academically and economically
at-risk youth to enrichment
activities and experiential learning
experiences.
Licking
County Department of Job and Family
Services: $35,000 to
support outreach and enrollment
services enabling economically
disadvantaged children to be
enrolled and to maintain their
enrollment in the Healthy Start
Medicaid program.
Licking
County Family YMCA:
$25,000 to support the expansion and
renovation of the Newark Branch YMCA
facilities.
Mental
Health America of Licking County:
$15,000 to support the operating
expenses of the YES Clubhouse
facility for one year.
The
Midland Theatre: $20,000
to support performing arts programs
for young people and families.
My Place
to Be: $5,000 to
support drama classes for students
on the autism spectrum to utilize
acting methods and techniques for
learning communication and social
interaction skills.
National
MS Society – Ohio Buckeye Chapter:
$3,000 to support
direct client services such as
equipment and home modification,
respite care, transportation
assistance, and individual/family
counseling for the uninsured or
underinsured in Licking County.
Ronald
McDonald House Charities:
$3,410 to support assistance for 500
guest nights at Ronald McDonald
House for families from Licking
County.
Society
of St. Vincent de Paul Housing
Facility, Inc.:
$15,000 to support operational,
essential, and administrative
services for providing emergency
shelter and/or transitional housing
and 3 meals per day for 32 adult
males for one year.
Village
of Hartford: $4,600
to support the purchase and
installation of five new furnaces
with air conditioning in the new
community center (the old Hartford
Elementary School).
The
Woodlands: $19,400 to
support the placement of six social
workers in Licking County area
schools (five in Newark City Schools
and one in Licking Heights School
District).
The
Works: $12,500 to
support the promotion of STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering
and Math) education in Licking
County.
2009 COMPETITIVE GRANTS

Licking Memorial Health Systems
received $75,000 to partially
support a dental care program for
Licking
County
children who are otherwise unable to
afford it.

a multi-media system that provides
innovative, hands-on-tools to help
